Just before I walk out of the drugstore yesterday I spotted these new Maybelline lipsticks. The price is quite affordable – 3 euro, so I couldn’t resist and bought two of them. I decided to try to be a trendy blogger this time and to write about them today.

Maybelline used to offer these lipsticks called Water Shine and Water Shine Diamonds. Throughout the years they had been reformulated a few times and released under different names. Hydra Extreme is the new version of these lipsticks.

I’ve always been a fan of this Maybelline range because the formulation is very hydrating and I have dry lips. Hydra Extreme feels great on the lips, lightweight and not sticky at all. On me they last around 4 hours, but we’re talking about a hydrating lipstick after all.

When I was buying mine I was in a hurry and I already had a lot of other products in my hands. I picked two shades solely based on the colours of the stickers and the names. There are a lot of shades in this range – around 15-20. I haven’t swatched them so there are probably more beautiful shades than the ones I own.

Rose Sunshine was actually a great choice – a bronzy kind of shade with pink shimmers in it. This colour is great for summer, the sparkles are so pretty when the sun light catches them.

As you may know at the moment I am obsessed with purple so I bought the shade called Violet silk. The colour is a light pinky purple. The finish looks like a frost finish (but it is not) and I guess a lot of you won’t like this fact. It does not bother me, but this shade is not very easy to wear so I needed to point it out. You can see the swatches for a better idea.

I couldn’t find a lot of information about these lipsticks online – they are supposed to be like a lip balm and to make the lips look fuller. They definitely feel nice on the lips, but I don’t think that they do anything for the shape of your lips. These lipsticks smell nice but not overwhelming, just like the lipsticks from the other Maybelline range the Vivids.

The formulation of Hydra Extreme is hydrating, the price is really affordable and you can choose between a lot of shades. If you are looking for a new lipstick for summer and you don’t need a long-lasting one I recommend to check them out.

Love this line of lipsticks but this color didn’t work on my light warm skintone and pale lips. Looks like a pale slightly frost plum beige in the tube, but was too whitish on my lips. Would look great on fairer cool skin though. The lipstick tube for these is hard to back on because of its odd shape.

Loooooove this lipstick. The color is so gorgeous and purpley and it looks great on my fair cool toned complexion. The formula is wonderful, it feels like a balm on but has the look of a lipstick. Very moisturizing, will leave your lips in better condition. The lasting power is not that great but this is one I don’t mind reapplying because it’s such a dream. And they’re fairly cheap, too! I happen to dig the watermelon scent, but maybe that’s just me. 🙂

Love the color, which is a silvery purpley plum. Very nice for my pale/cool complexion. The formula is nice– lightweight, moisturizing (as it should be for something called moisture extreme). I just HATE the smell. These are watermelon scented and that is gross. Why does my lipstick need to smell like watermelon, maybelline?? I won’t buy any more of this line because of that. Luckily the smell dissipates quickly and I will be able to wear this one that I have, because the color really is very pretty.

I am in love with this lipstick. The formula is great (very comfortable) and the color is awesome. It’s shiny without being frosty. The color is purple-pink, with more emphasis on purple. If you have a “cool” complexion, this will probably work for you. This is definitely one of my HG lipsticks.

A very ‘cool,’ rather ‘cold’ colour for my taste. Much metallic brownish than plum and I’d wish it had more pinkish undertones. It works good as a lip moisturizer and lip colur in one and I have experienced no problems with the staying power, but the colur could have been better.

Ahh! I hope these aren’t being discontinued! I really love the Nude one, it’s a fantastic color and it doesn’t look clownish or crayon-like. And it blends in great with my coloring, as I’m very fair complected with very un-pigmented lips. I’ll keep repurchasing!

yeah this may be being discontinued. I saw it at big lots and thought the color “nude” would be nice (and it was only $1). for one dollar it was a great buy. goes on smoothly (not crayon-y like some lipliners) and a nice neutral color that you can fill in your lips with too if you wanted, no need for lipstick or gloss if you use balm or carmex. i would recommend grabbing it if you see it!

I got this on sale, in the color ‘Nude’. These are very moisturizing and beautiful with a gloss over them. They are quite long lasting and stayed on even after I ate quite a bit.

Out of many different lip liners, this has to be the most amazing due to the moisture it lets off after application. I have been using the Red 80 color and have been satisfied with the outcome and how long lasting it is with even other lipsticks. I have also been known to just use it without any lipstick as it kind of acts like one from the rich color and moisture on my lips. Definitely would like to buy other lip liner colors if I can find more on sale.

I have so many of these; they’re the best lip pencil I’ve ever found! They are so creamy, and smooth. I can use this to fill in my entire lip, and just use gloss over top and it’s beautiful. I found these on clearance at Walgreen’s; hopefully won’t be discontinued!

I don’t line my lips, and it always jars me when I see women with their lips outlined and no color on their lips. But I do use lipliners as lipstick. Since I’m a matte lipstick girl, I’m constantly left hanging by makeup companies. Matte lips have gone the way of the dodo for the most part. But often lipliners will work for me. Not the dry ones, but the softer ones like these. Mauve is my current casual lip color. If you look you can still find these, but they are being discontinued. Act fast!

These might be on the verge of being discontinued. I’m not sure.

I bought 5 of these (nude, wine, merlot, raisin & red) at Walgreens on clearance for $1.50 each!

They are usually about $6, so I stocked up even though I hadn’t tried them before.

All the colors are beautiful.

First, I apply a very thin layer of lip balm to my lips (so the liner goes on smooth and evenly), line my lips, fill my lips in using the lip liner, and then add a little more balm on top.

The color stays on my lips for a few hours.

You might have to apply a balm or gloss often as these can be drying.

I’m still not sure how to sharpen them, because it seems like plastic or something instead of wood, and there’s no dial to push the lip color up so once I find out I’ll update this review.

I would not buy these again unless they were on sale or clearance because they are just too expensive for me.
